AWD is really a misnomer. Salmoneye is correct, in order to truly have AWD and have all four wheels pull together, the differental must be locked to make both wheels on the same axle pull equally. The AWD/full time FWD setup uses a clutch type transfer arrangement to allow for front/rear catchup. Watch when someone starts spinning in AWD/full-time FWD, the rears will spin more than the front. Part-time FWD or the older geared FWD will spin the fronts more.
