Sparks out of the exhaust pipe can be dangerous. One year in the springtime, I set a field of corn stalks on fire from sparks out of the exhaust pipe when I went out to disk the field. The tractor hadn't been used much over winter and carbon had built up in the pipe. Then I went out and worked the tractor hard. Conditions were apparently just right...dry and windy.
