I like them on the fender if I had to choose only 1, but I like having lots of lights. Our 1855 has 2 lights each fender and 2 on the grill, for a total of 6 facing forward. Has another 3 on the back, 2 up on the canopy, and 1 on the fender.
I just can't seem to understand how so many people manage to knock out their lights. Gotta keep the trees trimmed or stay away from them. Even then it'd have to be one heck of a branch to bust a headlight. I have seen it more on loader tractors, so I suppose that it sometimes happens when lifting things and they swing, or when doing other hard labor. A field tractor should never be missing a headlight.
None of our tractors have ever had their eyes poked out, but we have lost an occasional flasher mounted on the fender.
