You need to be thinking 20 HP per shank. You need speed for a chisel plow to really do it's job right. I have a 250 HP Steiger with a JD 712 disc chisel with 13 shanks with 4 inch twisted shovels. I can run 10 inches deep at 6 1/2 MPH in most soil, but in tough, wet sod I will be at 5 1/2 MPH. Smaller shanks and shovels can pull easier. Whatever you choose, you might want to try to pull it in your conditions before you get one. Wayne
