When I started my tractor resto, I sealed it to the ground and it was wetter under the tarp than outside. Every day the heat would pull the water from the ground and in the evening the cold temps would deposit it on the unfinished metal. Rusted like crazy.
I now use a mid grade 8' tarp attached to the front axle, pulled back over the hood, seat and rear fenders, and tied down to the three point. Now the belly up to the floor pans is exposed and the airflow stopped the condensation problem. This method does not cover the tires, so dry rotting would be an issue if left for a long time.
