My comment was solely re" our "invitation" to Germany to join in Iraq etc; it was not intended to be critical of the Germans, but intended as a compliment to their distancing themselves from their megamilitaristic past. Yes, they were one of our buffers; I"m not sure they appreciated being in the jaws of the meat grinder... Laws? Treaties?? C"mon now: if the Germans would"ve wanted to come in with us, all that fine language would"ve been modified, suspended, annulled, cancelled or just plain ignored, like so many other temporarily inconvenient laws and treaties...
