I am not familiar with your model pump. However, on some pumps that I have worked on there is a small scavenge port that feeds seepage back to the suction side of the pump. In this design if the port becomes clogged it will blow the seal. On pumps that are designed to run in either direction these ports will have a small check valve in each port
