Kinda funny you mentioned hearing loss. They had a base drill here the other day. I'd been wondering what the hell the big gray box with the speakers was inside my BAS, no one new. Turns out it's part of the base alert system, kind of like the tornado sirens with the loudspeaker function. Only this thing is inside, in a 15x30 room. So this thing goes off for the drill and darn near makes our ears bleed. It's not nearly as loud after I cut a few wires.... Wonder what moron though of mounting that thing inside a building instead of out side on a pole...
