Well,this morning I couldn't get that corn with the tough husks through the husking bed on my 325 for anything. So,I brought it home,backed it up to the shop and started drilling holes straight down into where the fingers were broken off. I had a whole bunch of old broken rod tines here off of a Gehl wheel rake. I drilled the holes just a fraction smaller than the rods. Then I heated the tips of the rods up red hot and started shoving them in the holes. WOW,the smoke and flames shot out around them,the first one startled me and I let go of it. There was so much pressure it blew it out of the hole and right over the top of the picker. I started holding them in til they cooled enough for the pressure to equalize. The molten rubber oozed up around them and sealed them in pretty good. I torched them off so they were only about 2 inches long. Enough to grip,but not enough to get leverage that would tear them up. I picked all day with it and so far so good. It made SOME difference in how it's husking that tough stuff too. I'm probably getting 20% of it clean now instead of 10%. The husks that are left aren't as complete,for lack of a better way to put it. Those steel rods are kinda punching them open so the rolls have more to get ahold of. I can load those Killbros 350 boxes in about 10 minutes. I guess I'd call that success.
