One of the biggest problems with communism is it's just as prone if not more prone to corruption. Also, it seems communism and totalitarianism go hand in hand when communism takes root in a new country. Heck, even Lee Harvey Oswald figured out after living in the USSR for a short time that Utopian communism will never exist (LHO still scum in my book just so there is no misunderstanding). Can anybody think of a country where communism was thrown away and the people actually missed it years later? The problem in this country is all the intellectuals think there will be room at the top for them in a new communist state. Pyramid shaped power structure holds true in just about every government so there will be limited room at the top and some of these intellectuals will sadly find themselves among the rank and file. Of course, there will be plenty of new jobs created when the government sets up the spy network to have surveillance over it's own population.
