I've been loading for years using 2400. If you're going for maximum loads, though, H110/296 is preferred. I'm told that these two powders are actually the same, just different packages. If you go to the Hodgdon site, you'll see that the data for H110 and 296 are identical.
I use Blue Dot for 9mm, where it works well. Supposedly it can give you velocities comparable to H110/296, but it's quite a bit faster than those powders. Since you're going after big game, I think you would be better off using H110/296. Alliant's 158 grain load for Blue Dot shows 1188 fps, while Hodgdon's 158 grain load using H110/296 is a whopping 1591 fps. That's 34 percent more velocity, or 79 percent more muzzle energy.
