Dear Doug. I am in the midst of planting 240 acres of grass for a CRP Program. In many cases Usda (US Dept. of Agriculture) Will permit you to plant grass for CRP directly behind an earlier crop to minimize erosion or runoff. For instance we are planting 100 acres to grass directly into spring barley stubble to provide extra moisture to get grass off to a better start. Another 140 acres will be planted into grass directly into spring wheat stubble. I don't know what part of the country you live in , but you need to sign up for CRP and bid at so much an acre in the next sign-up period. If your bid is accepted you will be given information on what type of grass mixtures are approved for your rainfall area and soil type. If you have any other questions contact me and I'll try to help you . In my own case I'll have to admit that USDA people have been quite helpful in getting us started in our CRP Program. For some people it is a good program but you have to go about it right in order to get paid for it.
