The magnetic contactor for our bin fan has been acting up the last couple of years. Thinking I better get it figured out before we have a problem.
Its an axial type 10hp fan with a magnetic contactor for the starter. Last year it started with a buzzing noise coming from the contactor until the fan was up to speed and you have to hold down the momentary contact start button till the fan get up to speed. I am assuming that this is due to the current draw at startup and voltage and avaliable current too low to hold the contactor in during startup.
But why? I was wondering if the coil in the contactor is getting weak.
