Using the Roundup, instead of fire, will kill the root system of all the currently growing trash. Fire will only destroy the tops and the undesireable plants will flourish again. The residue left from the chemical burndown would minimze erosion and provide mulch and conserve moisture for the new crop. The nurse crop mentioned in an above post would have merit in certain conditions and would be inexpensive.
