Our drought finished a couple of weeks ago, nice steady rain which has bulked up the crops. No irrigation here - plenty of moisture from above ! LoL. The clay soils here retain moisture although there is not much depth of soil over the rock. Being less than a mile from the sea, the salt winds can burn off crops.
A typical grass seed mixture for this area would be several types of Perenial Ryegrass (early, mid & late types) with some White Clover. The ley would be down for a long time and have to provide silage/hay and grazing.
