Chevy used the T5 transmission with a separate housing-adapter to fit the Isuzu 2.2 diesel engine in the S10 series. Isuzu never used that trans except in the 1993 Rodeo with a gas engine.
The 2.2 Isuzu diesel is a gas engine that Isuzu converter to diesel, so several Isuzu gas-engine transmissions fit it. None are very rugged, but the four speeds are more HD then the 5 speeds. That's probably why Chevy used the T5 instead.
