Transport wheels were removed; animal walked 'round and 'round, stepping over the wooden tongue each revolution........kinda like powering a sorghum press, except the animal didn't circle the whole baler. My Dad came home from Germany in late '45 and swapped a liberated Luger for a hay baler/press. I was too little to help with the baling; my job was to keep the mule going. Other than the 'power', it worked just like the belt/engine driven ones.
