I'm in my 23rd year in a DFW metroplex police department, and it has gone by in a flash, it is by far the most exciting and interesting career to be involved in.

I worked many midnight shifts and threw a lot of bad guys in jail, and yes I've drawn my weapons many times but never had to use it.

I've never wanted to kill anyone either, but I don't mind matching any level of force to stop them from hurting me or a citizen, if they use a gun then I would too, remember not everyone who gets shot dies.

I went in at 33 and had no problem in the academy. Most departments in Texas start around 40k a year and they are hiring all of the time. Vision has to be correctable to 20-20 and most cities do not require a college degree (though it helps).

There is stress in police work as in any job but as in any job it’s all in how you personally deal with it. We encourage rookies to be sure to have friends outside of police work as well as in so they have a well rounded life. of course having a farm to come to after work at helps also.

Look up the Fort Worth Police Department for recruiting info and requirements.

Life is great here in Texas !! (after 8 days of rain we can finally brag)
