I know an office who became a K9 handler. He loved the being on call 24-7 and the physical activity. He was always chasing someone. He still had a regular patrol too, he hated the drunks and domestics. It was hard on his family because lots of K9's or their dogs get in trouble tracking which is normally done alone here. Lots of time just the dog gets shot but it can be the handler too.
He didn't let them have a scanner in the house as he felt it was a bad luck/stress inducer for them.
