Depends on what it is, Car insurance is a must, home owners insurance is a must cause if you dont have it the mortgage company gets it for you and that aint cheep by a long shot.
Farm Bureau ins. takes a lot of my money every year in premiums, over $3000 actually. car and home insurance.
Those premiums from everybody add up to Billions of dollars, insurance companies dont like paying out claims and I have been told that if you have 2 home owners claims in a year you can be dropped or put on the black list. (dont know how true that is)
