Thr generator/alternator make be putting out all it can-full capacity. Say it is 12 amps max and the light are drawing 18 amps. Nothing wrong. Check the voltage with the battery in and the lights off. I grew up with a 36 ford that could keep up with the lights but if I ran the radio too, the battery ran down and I was stranded.
