The .223 remington rounds are now $11/box of 20 and that is about the going rate. (that is US made ammo) I dont buy imported ammo. .30-06 rounds are now $1/round, I bought .30-06 when it was .50 per round, 9 years ago when I bought my bolt action .30-06. The .22 LR rimfire bullets are about 6 cents per bullet, If you are looking for a basic plinking gun then .22 might be what you want. Smith and Wesson now makes a .22 rimfire AR, real neat, $600 and ammo is cheap.
