I'd look for black floaters in the water as well as tiny bubbles as that would be a classic sign of pin holes in a head gasket leak.

You can use a 1/4 pint of sodium silicate to temporary plug the pins holes. Add SS as the engine us running, warm and circulating. About 25k miles before having to add more. Too much and the heater core will plug up.

To see if SS has been added, look for salt looking crystals around the filler neck.
