I'd try a hair dryer or heat gun first. The key is to be very patient pulling the decal off and not get to anxious to rip it off quickly. If you are really steady with your hands you can use a single edge razor blade held almost flat to remove the decal once it is warm. It is safer to the inexperienced to only use a plastic putty knife or similar to work up an edge so you can pull carefully. It helps to let you fingernails grow a little so you can use them without burning your fingertips, too.
This will not normally work on decals that have been on for decades. I just deletterred two trucks that were done about 8 years ago and they still came off fine.
