The previously mentioned system whereby a person subtracted "4" from the first 2 digits of the serial number applied only until July of 1953. So in say June of '53, all Cases started with "57". In July though, a new serial number system was started using the beginning digits "60" which then made it impossible to determine the year of manufacturer merely from seeing the serial number. Interesting that Case then renumbered many of their unsold '53 models later and made them available as '54's using the new system. I got all this info from a Case history book. Interesting stuff.
