Alternator conversions

Always take a tape measure and a good flashlight when you visit your favorite auto salvage yard. For the very popular Delco alternators, I discovered something interesting. The regular units for the full size cars measure 3 1/4 from the center of the base mounting hole to the center of the shaft. Those for the Chevette measure 3 5/8 for the same points. This higher mount might be great for some applications and a real problem for others. Hope this tip helps someone.
