Fred: Have you tried flashing the field on the generator. If you have a "Bat", "gen", and "f" terminals on the voltage regulator, just touch the bat to the gen terminal with a jumper wire. You will get a spark when you touch the terminals. Just touch it quickly, don't hold the jumper on the terminals. If you have just a cut out relay, remove the wire from the F terminal on the generator and then jump to the F terminal from the battery. Then reconnect. Its worth a try.
