Got to a NAPA or similar store that sells auto paint supplies and have them get you a quart of Rust-Mort acid. This is enough to do several projects. Apply with old rag and let set over night. Wash off with water or wet rag the next day. For folds and creases buy a spray can of rust killer and spray into areas you cannot paint or sand. It is more like a paint. Read the instructions for safety. I use Rust-Mort on everything. Prime with a good primer sealer such as is used in base coat clear coat auto finishes. Good luck!
