An issue not yet mentioned that always concerns me is oil pressure. If possible I would pull the distributor, turn the oil pump with a drill to pump oil thru the system without any of the pressures created in a running engine. Also confirm a decent reading on the pressure gauge. Just think of the damage that could be done if the pump isn't working and you fire an engine that's been dry for a number of years.
