I have LOTS of experience with a Needle Scaler (AKA Needle GUN, one of the nicer names). Harbor Freight has one. I used one for years in the Navy to remove paint from metal. Worked OK after I started using ear plugs AND "Mickey Mouse" ears (AKA Ear Muffs). Read that LOUD. There is another implement of destruction called a "Knuckle buster" that had three larger strikers that came out of the pneumatic controller. We'd typically do most of the paint removal with the knuckle buster (especially the deck paint/sand mixture) the fine stuff with the needle gun and then wire brush/sand smooth, prime and paint.

Brings back memories I thought I'd regressed!
