I have a key on/off and rubber starter push button setup. Yesterday the button stuck and kept turning the motor until the battery went dead before I could get a wrench and disconnect it. It was cold and the battery was low so it might have done 20 revs or so. I could smell things getting hot. Got the battery out, replaced with a good one and all is well. It started and I would assume the solenoid dissengaged. But I couldn't tell because of the noise. My question is, could I have done harm to the starter/ solenoid? Could it not be dissengaging even though it starts and runs fine? Could the problem be the solenoid? Best to replace the button anyway? Thanks, Gus
