Muriatic Acid works good.However you should use something to loosen the rust first.A handful of sheet metal screws work good for this.And some way to agitate them around inside the tank.I like to strap the tank to a rear tractor tire.I then raise the tractor with a jack and place a stand under the axle.Make sure you have enough clearance for the tank and have it strapped tight.Then put the tractor in gear and let it revolve the tank.I let mine turn for a half hour or so before checking.If not ready i let it agitate some more.After the rust is loose blow it out and pour the acid in and let it cook a while.If its bad do it more than once using fresh acid."BE SURE TO WEAR GLOVES AND EYE PROTECTION WHILE HANDLING THE ACID" Also dispose of the dirty acid properly.After cleaning with the acid rinse the inside of the tank with clean water and dry.Then treat the inside of the tank with Acetone to neutralize the rust.You should then use a sealer to coat the inside of the tank.You can purchased a sealer and a kit to do this.Take your time and do it correctly and your tank will be good as new.
