Those red cedars make wonderful windbreaks and during cold winter weather the birds use them as refuge. Red cedars do grow wild and do need to be controlled, but they can also be dug up and transplanted and require very little attention. I think there may be a bit of an issue with cedars and apple trees, but I have a red delicious apple tree that is almost fighting for space with a couple of red cedars and we still get way more apples than we can use OR give away.
The apple tree does get sprayed in the early spring with an orchard spray.
