99% of all virus infections are the result of opening email attachments. The type of attachment does NOT matter. A virus can be contained in any type. You are safe when surfing the web as long as you don't download anything if you also turn JAVA support and VBSCRIPT support off. JavaScript is OK to leave enabled. Run a virus check program that is always enabled. And be sure to download the latest "data" files for the virus checker you use. Run a virus scan once a week. If you use OUTLOOK or OUTLOOK EXPRESS, yes, a virus can be sent without your knowledge, to all your email recipients. And yes, your virus checker can cause problems connecting to your email server if you have it set up to monitor your email. Check with technical support. To be completely protected, get ZONE ALARM from http://www.grc.com. It's free.
