For the last several years I've cleared my 160-foot driveway with a 2N and a back blade without chains. Didn't have any trouble. (Before that, I had my dad's 2N with chains and a loader -- the chains definitely made a difference on how much snow I could push.)

Now this year we've been getting those storms I remember from when I was a boy. Without chains, I've been having lots of trouble. I'm already down to about half the normal width in the driveway.

Late last winter my aunt sold me a broken set for $20. Guess I'll be fixing them this weekend (supposed to be another 4 to 8 by tomorrow).

I'd look for the chains if I were you. They do make a difference.
