That rating system is as good as any I've seen, mostly because it gives you some sort of checklist. There are two things that are important to try to avoid getting shafted: 1. Check EVERYTHING and believe NOTHING.
2. Try to keep your emotions out of it. Spencer Yost's Antique Tractor Bible has a chapter on the subject that is pretty good too.
