I would highly recomend that you do some learning about the process before you condem it. I think if you either tried it or watched it being done you would have a different opinion.
For Chuck to pay someone to split the tractor, empty the housing and put it all in a new casting would add a lot of cost to the price of the new casting ,probably 2K labor for the hydrostatic transmission.
