I second the gun oil nomination. I soak my old black powder revolvers in it after cleaning with soap and water, then let excess soak into a rag before putting the grips back on. Never had any rust problems with them and they function flawlessly.
When I get a ratchet that is getting a little sticky or bound up, they get a soak overnight. Loosens them right up. I picked up or been given several "bad" or "no good" ratchets and this fixed them right up.
