You don't say how many cattle you're talking or how big the pasture is. One scenario might be, if the cattle are too many for the land area they will get bored once the grass is eaten off and damage the trees out of boredom. Once the apples are gone, cattle will sometimes eat at the bark out of boredom or maybe the bark smells like apples- not sure why but it does happen. If you have plenty of grass for the cattle, they may leave the trees alone. Whatever the situation, the cattle will definitely eat your apples. They are sweet and the cattle will head there first once they get a taste for them.
