Relative Safety

All: I used the words "Relative Safety" to john and I thought I'd expand that. These forums are a blessing to "old-iron." Some of these 40-80+ year old machines do not have modern brakes.. or shields over PTO's and belt pullys etc ..and yes some have very old original tires.. and some have narrow front end that make tipping easier etc etc. Many operators have been safely taking all that into account when working on these machines for many many years..That to me is called "relative safety". An old F-20 doesn't look quite right with a big R.O.P.S. welded on it. The operator\owner knows this and acts accordingly..The consept of "relative safety" should go a long way to reducing alarm over safety with these old-very old machines..Wheather it be brakes, shields, narrow frontends, or even old tires, I for one think scarry post are not needed but rather "relative safety" by people who are experianced with that machine should, and has been, working well. Give the owner\operator a little credit for having some brains to operate it since he was smart enough to have restored it..I'll step down from the soap box with the words...keep "relative safety" in mind at all times john........harvey
