I repaired a block with an outside crack once by drilling a small hole about 1/2" past the end of the crack on each end. Then I cleaned the area around the crack with a grinder and cut a groove with the grinding wheel over the crack. Next was the hard part, I lifted the side of the tractor up with a winch truck until the block was almost horizontal and brazed the cracked area. Brazing is not as pone to stress fracturing as other materials used to weld cast iron.
