Probably a mechanic working flat rate looking for a gravy job to pad his numbers. One of the biggest reasons I quit the local dealer years ago was because of the dirty dealing done by the service writers and unscrupulous mechanics. The flat rate manual probably said that was a 3 hr job, and he could do it in a half hour. Thats why he had the time to do it right away, thought he had you on the hook, I'm surprised he didn't tell you that you wouldn't make it home without it blowing the engine.
