Did you ever fill out an internet survey & leave your e-mail address? Some of those have a tiny box already checked that they will send you e-mail ads if you don't object. Well, your name gets sold to the spam mailers.

Did you ever get an e-mail from a friend with about 100 e-mail names in it, promising that if you send it out to as many people as possible is doing this as a test & everyone on the list will get <$10, $100, $347, pick your amount>? Junk mails like these are harvested by the spammers & all the e-mail addresses are used. Thanks a lot, friends, for helping spam me! :)

News groups (user groups) are the worst, put your e-mail in there & 100 spams will come dashing to your mailbox.
