Unlike the Bureau of Motor vehicles which has jurisdiction regarding State issued Certificates of Title for motor vehicles, States dont, in general, issue certificates of Title etc for farm tractors. Therefore YES a good signed Bill of Sale which includes basic information to identify the item such as Make, Model, Serial Numbers etc. is good evidence of lawful posession should such ever be required. Also as an Attorney, I can tell ya the old wives tale that "Possession is 9/10 of the Law" is indeed fairly accurate as your posession grants to you in general by law superior claim over all others besides a true and rightful owner if one happens to exist who say had it stolen from him. Even if you steal something your claim is still superior to all others BESIDES the true owner, i.e. just because you stole something gives no one else the right to turn around n steal it from you.
