Part of my house is lap sided and part is sheet sided with that old T stuff wood panels that is rotting in a couple places. I replaced one side with Hardi Panel. Did ok but has a lot of nails showing. Did another side and the panels just don't want to center up right on the 16" center studs. Get to close to the edge or shoot a nail at an angle and the edge breaks off. I'm thinking about tearing that side back off and going to vinyl with the stiff insulation backer molded into the vinyl and one that uses screwable mounting brackets instead of loose nailing slots along the top of each piece.
I like the Hardi lap siding but it needs painting so if I can find a source, I'd probably buy vinyl like I mentioned above. Lowest and Home Cheapo just sells that crummy crud.
