Read in a farm paper the other day where an elderly gentleman was upset. Why?He runs 50 head cow/calf opperation and his bull got out.The neighbours called the RCMP (Canada) and they came along with the "provincial designated drover" (beef farmer who went broke and got a government job) to tell him all his cattle were going to be seized. They took a trailer load that day.A month later they came for the rest. They apparently tranquilized most of them.Three died and a calf escaped into the woods to be coyotee food.He appeared in court in hand cuffs and was charged under the Prince Edward Island "Stray animal act".Was fined 900 dollars and 100 dollars criminal surcharge. He was told he can have his cattle back so long as he pays 12 000 handling service and bording fees.He just told them to sell them.I certainly hope there was much more to the story than just that, but that's all that got printed.I am sure as heck glad to be living in a very small community and not on the edge of the city as he is.And to top it all off today,in the mail came a 70 or so page "Manual" for acceptal code of practice for dairy cattle welfare.Soon going to be against the law to produce food in this country. It sure is a good thing that food comes from the store lol.Pd.
