As Klent said, electronic eqpmt still draws power even when on standby, and while it"s not much it adds up...Europeans have been unplugging when not in use for years, and they"re still surviving... We used to keep the house lit up like a tower of jewels, but it"s not really necessary, unless you"re arthritic and can"t work the switch... Depending on size of family and usage, lots of hot water heaters can be off awhile at night... In hot areas, anything to keep direct sun off the house will help; there"s lots of tips on the net... It"s a game: they raise the price, we think of a way to use less and still be comfortable.
