Seems I recall that IH used a white primer under the red paint,so its easy to think someone may have a demonstrator.Accually some dealers may have painted them white.Ih mainly did As and Cs I think and it was for the mid century sales promaotion,Guy Fay could be more specific on them.Sounds like the wrong pistons were ordered for that tractor to me.As far as it sitting on a lot for a couple of years,I dont know how common that was but my granfather bought his 47 H new in 49.Still uses it regulary and even has the red background replacement decals the dealer put on there.They are about shot but are there.Maybe Guy will come on and help out.
