This series of Deere has the shift coming out of the dash immediately right of the steering wheel, with a throttle lever mounted on the column coming out just under the steering wheel. The PTO lever is mounted along the right side of the tractor and comes up along the dash roughly parallel to the shift.
Left of the steering wheel is the draft controls. Left foot clutch, right foot, cutting brakes. So either side would require mounting it pretty high; you're likely correct about keeping the valve on the right.
