Storage is always a problem with me as it is with many others.

Usually the transmission and rear axle housings will have fittings or vents that allow rain to get in during long term storage.

I sometimes take what is remaining and turn it up-side-down. This way the place for rain entry is at the bottom. I currently have a tractor trans/axle stored this way. If possible keep blocked up off the ground to prevent moisture from the ground getting into the cavities.

I've stored engines this way also, with the oil pan on top. It sure helps when short on garage or barn storage space.
